Position Overview

The position of Career Support Engineer was created to provide Codesmith graduates with the opportunity to receive technical interview training and job search guidance directly from experienced Software Engineers. The Career Support Engineer will conduct Career Support Sessions with Codesmith grads from all the immersive campuses. They will also consult with the outcomes team on industry best practices for hiring. This position is 100% remote.

Position Requirements

  • First and foremost, the desire to help Codesmith students and graduates prepare for and succeed in their job search
  • Effective at giving helpful and empathetic feedback 
  • Desire to lead graduate workshops on interviewing strategies
  • Strong resume editing skills
  • Must be currently working as a Software Engineer (preferably involved in the interview process for new engineers)

Position Responsibilities

The responsibilities listed below are core to the Career Support Engineer role. Once accustomed to these responsibilities, there may be additional opportunities with consideration of your professional development goals and interests (for example, additional workshops and/or projects). 

Support Sessions for Graduates

  • Workshops. Develop material for and conduct a recurring alumni-facing workshop related to the job search. Topics of focus are subject to community needs and CSE interest.
  • 1:1 Support Sessions. Host 1:1 sessions with the alumni community, aimed at targeting specific aspects of the job search. Session types vary, ranging from application material review (resumes/outreach messages), to mock interviews, to take-home code reviews. Overarchingly, the CSE will provide general job hunt advice and strategy recommendations on how to approach the job search.
  • Group Narrative/Resume sign-off sessions. Meet with post-grad groups after graduation to give narrative and resume feedback.

Advise Outcomes Team on Slack 

  • Advise outcomes team on resume and job search best practices in the team slack 

Final Resume Sign Offs

  • Approximately one weekend per quarter, sign off on resumes of half of a cohort (timing flexible, though must be over the weekend). You will know your sign-off schedule ahead of time (with at least 1 month notice). 

Quarterly Professional Development Meetings 

  • Once every 3 months, the team will have a Career Support All Hands meeting to align on best practices. 
  • Participate in quarterly check-ins and bi-annual professional development check-ins to hone in on how to continually grow within the Career Support Engineer role. 

Time Commitment

The time commitment for the Career Support Engineer is flexible, though we recommend starting at 4-6 hours per week. You are in charge of your own calendar and can choose your availability for times that suit you best!

The initial time commitment for this role is a 6-month contract. Pending interest and availability, extensions can be discussed towards the end of the 6-month period.

Compensation

The Career Support Engineer is compensated at $45/hour, paid bi-weekly on Fridays.
